A beginning

Well, we're getting ready for our first "real" vacation this year.  For some unknown reason, we seem to be the only people, possibly on earth, who have never heard of Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) Island in Michigan.  I made reservations at the Grand Hotel, which I later discover is fairly well-known (even my 91 year old cousin who has lived her entire life in NYC has heard of it!) and very formal -- ladies and gentlemen are required to dress (i.e., evening dresses, jackets & ties) for dinner.  For some reason, I thought this island was in the part of Michigan I was aware of --- the Detroit area.  Well, it turns out the Michigan is a humongous state and this island is more than 9 hours away!!  So much for not taking anymore road trips. This is my first blog -- will see how it goes.  I intend to write something every day and will hopefully be able to upload some good pictures (I've heard it's beautiful).  Goals for the trip:  eat some good food, reconnect, spa time, relearn to ride a bicycle, walk alot, possibly in that order.  Hopefully, I won't be too boring.
